Healthy, Compassionate Birth

Sustaining Life Through Healthy, Compassionate Birth, Led by Kay Sandberg

“Every baby’s first breath on Earth could be one of peace and love. Every mother should be healthy and strong. Every birth could be safe and loving, but our world is not there yet. The situation is bad… babies are unattended, deliveries have become commercialized, and mothers die from hemorrhage after childbirth because they can’t afford proper care.” Robin Lim, Midwife and 2011 CNN Hero of the Year and member of our network

It’s appalling that approximately 800 women and 8,200 newborns die each day from preventable complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. 90% of these deaths are preventable through access to quality care. For women to have “voice and choice” in accessing healthy, loving births should be a human right, not a privilege for those who can afford these choices.

Our Healthy Birth Project provides support and connects grassroots projects in Cameroon, Ecuador, Haiti, Indonesia (Bali & Aceh), India, Mexico, Nepal, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Uganda (two locations) and formerly Tibet, to address maternal & infant mortality by education and sharing effective practices where there is no doctor. Please see the map below for our network of participating projects and a description of each. For additional information on particular projects, click on their names in the right toolbar (coming soon) and visit their websites listed.
